Our Department
From its modest beginnings over a century ago, the Pensacola Fire Department has grown to 156 members. We operate six engines, two ladder trucks, three rescue trucks and two aircraft rescue and firefighting units out of seven stations located throughout the city. The PFD provides firefighting and rescue services typical to cities of its size, as well as protection services normally found in much larger cities. We are responsible for protecting one of the major deep water ports on the Gulf of Mexico, three large petrochemical and manufacturing plants, and an FAA Class C commercial airport. Because of our high level of training, advanced operating methods, and excellent firefighting infrastructure, the Pensacola Fire Department is rated a Class II fire department by the Insurance Services Office. This means that fire insurance rates in the City of Pensacola are among the lowest anywhere in the country.  The Pensacola Fire Department is organized into four main divisions: Fire Suppression & Safety, Fire Prevention, Administration, and Training.
